Skill Development Task TWO:

Heel Walking...Strengthens Feet and Legs A Solid Base for Moving Skills


STEP BY STEP PROGRESSIONS

To work moving skills during kids play try this:

YOU can make a big difference in your youngster's body control during their play.

In a calm voice, ASK you child to:

  1. Place their feet parallel.
  2. Moving across the practice area [in a straight line], have the child walk on alternating heels.
  3. Lift the toes off the ground.
  4. The toes and forefoot should be kept OFF the floor.
  5. Knees will be STRAIGHT during the steps.
  6. The steps should be slow and deliberate.
  7. Helper Hint: Clap an easy rhythm to urge progress to finish area.

Note: Suggest the child uses there arms for balance while walking

TASK OBJECTIVE: FOOT & BALANCE This task will encrease strength and flexibility of the feet.

Teaching Hints for Turning Kids Play into Build Brain Time

  • The senses will connect the muscles to the brain as the child strives to move well.
  • Make sure that the practice times for this task are SHORT and happy!
  • Check to make certain that the legs are l-o-n-g and knees straight.
  • This exercise recruits the brain and ensures good muscle control.

Moving skills must be encouraged during kids play to make sure that preschool learning comes from fun times.
