Walking on the INSIDE Edges of the Foot...Builds Foot Strength for Moving Skills
STEP BY STEP PROGRESSIONS
To work moving skills during kids play try this:
YOU can make a big difference in your youngster's body control during their play.
In a calm voice, ASK you child to:
- Place feet parallel at the start line.
- Roll weight to the inside EDGES of the feet.
- WALK forward.
- Note: The gait will be REALLY funny!
- Remember to keep the toes pointing forward forward as the child moves.
- That idea IS VERY IMPORTANT.
- Helper Hint: You will see most children really using the arms and hands as they move.
- In this exercise, waving arms is OK!
- Movng will look very awkward. Just TRY it!
Note: Suggest the child uses there arms for balance while walking
TASK OBJECTIVE: FOOT USE & STRENGTHENING This task begins the essential work on the feet. Care in observing the work is important.
Teaching Hints for Turning Kids Play into Build Brain Time
- The senses will connect the muscles to the brain as the child strives to move well.
- Make sure that the practice times for this task are SHORT and happy!
- Check to make certain that the toes are touching as well as the heels touching each other.
- The foot has so many nerves to gather sensory information.
Moving skills and careful footwork must be encouraged during kids play to make sure that preschool learning comes from fun times.
